American Sentryâ„¢ Linden
American Sentryâ„¢ Linden Fast-Growing Shade Tree with Ornamental Features The American Linden is a large, fast-growing shade tree. It will be a happy addition to your yard with its tall, stately presence. As a hardy shade tree, you’ll also enjoy its cooling proximity during those hot summer months. It grows to 95 feet in height with a spread of 45 feet, substantial enough for a large landscape, but not too big for a more diminutive yard. Its superior use as a shade tree is clear not only in its stature but also in the large, heart shaped leaves that give a full effect to its spreading branches. Beyond its shade and strength, your Linden tree will also provide some added color to your landscape. You’ll soon come to associate spring with the clusters of aromatic yellow flowers that grace its branches. As summer progresses you’ll enjoy watching woody, pea-sized seeds form. Their light green shade provides a slight variation in color throughout your tree for the late summer. When autumn appears, your Linden’s leaves will take a dramatic step as green leaves transform to brilliant yellow, sure to be seen from miles around. The American Linden, also called the Basswood tree, starts out pyramidal in shape but becomes rounded at maturity. Its benefits go far beyond its ornamental features. The wood is valued for its light but strong nature and is suitable for a wide variety of uses. Parts of the tree have medicinal uses, and some consider the honey from Linden flowers to be some of the best available. The American Linden tree is an excellent choice for almost any yard, and would certainly be a strong and useful sentinel next to your house for years to come. * Hardy shade tree * Spring and fall color * Wildlife appeal

Linden - Glenleven - Sale Price: $107.05 The Glenleven Linden, Tilia flavescens 'Glenleven', is a hybrid between American and Little Leaf Linden. It is a fast growing tree with an extremely straight trunk and a pyramidal form (cone shaped). Glenleven's green foliage turns yellow in the fall. This tree has a faster growth rate than other Little Leaf Lindens with a more open canopy that casts a moderate shade. Glenleven is a prolific bloomer, with its small fragrant flowers appearing in late June and into July. Many bees are attracted to the flowers, and the dried flowers persist on the tree for some time. Lindens are pH adaptable and pollution tolerant but prefer well drained soil. The leaves are heart shaped and dark green. Lindens generally are very hardy trees, once established, and maintain their pyramidal shape easily without trimming. | Hackberry - Sale Price: $64.25 Fast Growing Tree with Edible Fruit The Hackberry is a fast growing, deciduous tree that produces edible fruit. Plant one in your yard for its shade and seasonal interest, especially if you have a place where the soil is too poor for other trees. Your Hackberry can grow up to 60 feet with a 40-50 foot spread, so it’s quite an expansive shade tree for your yard. It has a cylindrical shape with 5-inch alternate, green leaves with undersides of a slightly yellow hue. Those leaves will turn completely yellow in autumn for a showy accent in your yard. Your Hackberry’s foliage arrives at the same time as the ¼-inch spring flowers, giving your tree a vivacious, lime-green appearance that will certainly draw your eye. Those flowers will eventually give way to 1/3-inch, deep-purple drupes that can persist on your tree into the winter months. The drupes have a somewhat date-like flavor and were traditionally used by Native Americans as a food source. Wildlife will also treasure the tiny fruits for the added nutrition they can provide, in addition to the shelter and nesting opportunities the tree presents. The Hackberry’s trunk has a corky appearance, offering some added decorative definition to the barren winter landscape. That wood can also be used for furniture or other projects (it’s soft but heavy). Hackberry trees are tolerant of most conditions, including wind and urban conditions. It’s a great way to have an impressive shade tree with ornamental appeal in less time than other large trees would require. The edible fruit sweetens the deal as a fun and useful addition to an already outstanding tree. * Fast-growing shade* Spring and fall color* Edible fruit* Wildlife interest |
