| Apple Tree - Liberty - Sale Price: $78.50 The Liberty Apple, Malus 'Liberty', is a deep dark red over 90 percent of the surface. The red is striped rather than blushed. The shape of the fruit is oblate to oblate conic, and the size averages 2 3/4 to 3 inches, although it may be smaller on heavily cropping trees. There are numerous light colored small sunken dots on the surface of the fruit. The flesh is yellowish in color, and the apple is juicy, crisp, and fine. It is a new disease resistant apple, and the name 'Liberty' denotes the freedom from disease. (Since it is not resistant to insects, however, spraying or other means of insect control must still be used.) The flavor is subacid and good. 'Liberty' is considered to be primarily a dessert apple. It makes an excellent applesauce if the skin is left on. Plant about a month after the first killing frost in the fall or about a month before the last killing frost in the spring.
