Besides its excellent red autumn color, it has a profuse production of red fruits. The 0.25 fruits are borne along the stem, and although highly ornamental, are not eaten by birds. The white flowers precede the fruit but are not as ornamental. It does well in heavier soils, is quite shade tolerant, and requires little pruning. This slow growing, suckering shrub transplants well. Upright Chokeberry is very adaptable to moist/wet sites, and is appropriate for naturalizing and for attracting wildlife.
