Summit Ash - Sale Price: $114.95 The Summit Ash, Fraxinus pennsylvanica 'Summit', is a vigorous selection of Green Ash that features a straight trunk and is uniformly upright in habit.  Being very hardy, it tends to color early in the fall with golden yellow color! Although reported to be a female selection, seed production has not been a problem.  It rarely is fed on by Japanese beetles.   Once developed properly in the nursery, the trunk remains straight up through the crown of the tree, and the branch habit is reported to be better than the species.  Early pruning helps assure that this happens. The attractive bark is red-tinged and furrowed, and it is reportedly thicker than other Ashes.  The tree grows quickly and can sometimes reach 80 feet in height. Summit has green to reddish-purple flowers that appear in spring.  This tree has been successfully grown in urban areas where air pollution, poor drainage, compacted soil, and/or drought are common! * Hardy * Upright habit * Fall color

False Cypress - Gracilis - Sale Price: $51.35 False Cypress - Gracilis, Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Gracilis', has a strong central leader and a distinctive and refined pyramidal form with whorled, flattened sprays of dark green foliage. A graceful addition to any home landscape, this small accent tree features finely-textured deep green foliage all season long. Gracilis adds an interest to the landscape with its slightly drooping branches. This slender Hinoki Cypress is one of the most acceptable for hedges and screens; not used simply for an exemplary specimen. This is a relatively low maintenance shrub. If any pruning is needed, it is recommended to trim back the new growth of the current season, and remove any dieback. Gracilis prefers full sun or very light shade, and well-drained soil. It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and will even thrive in inner city environments. The scale-like leaves do not develop any appreciable fall color. American Hornbeam - Sale Price: $34.95 ‘Caroliniana’ is a healthier eastern-states cousin from the birch family, lacking the insect and disease problems that plague the species at large. Here is a pleasing small-to-medium tree with fresh green summer foliage and a show of yellow to either orange or fire-engine red come fall. When mature, the shape can range from rounded to a broader, elliptical form. Its biggest benefit is its surprising shade tolerance — it will thrive, even under the canopy of other trees — but will be happiest in partial shade. ‘Caroliniana’ likes wet feet (though it can tolerate a semi-dry spot) and is partial to a slightly acid-to-neutral soil pH. If you live near a wooded area, you can count on attracting a variety of desirable game birds (wild turkey, pheasant, ruffled grouse), which will seek out the seeds and buds. Perfect as a windbreak because of its supreme resistance to splitting, and just grand-looking when planted as a grove. Zones 4-8.

Nuttall Oak - Sale Price: $85.65 The Nuttall Oak tree, Quercus nuttallii, was not distinguished as a species until 1927. It is also called red oak, Red River oak, and pin oak. It is one of the few commercially important species found on poorly drained clay flats and low bottoms of the Gulf Coastal Plain and north in the Mississippi and Red River Valleys. The acorn or winter buds identify Nuttall oak, easily confused with pin oak (Q. palustris). The lumber is often cut and sold as red oak. In addition to producing timber, Nuttall oak is an important species for wildlife management because of heavy annual mast production. Nuttall Oak trees are a good choice for low poorly drained locations. During winter, squirrels find a ready supply of acorns, since many acorns remain on the tree into January. Acorns are favored by deer and also eaten by turkeys.

The delicate, white blooms stand out like tiny white bridal bouquets amid the tree’s branches. When summer arrives, those flowers will have become orange-red fruit, providing a stunning accent to the green, tropical-look of the leaves. The berries appear in clusters on the tree, and will even persist well after the leaves have dropped for the season. Your Mountain Ash becomes more interesting with age. The smooth, grey bark of its youth will turn rough and scaly with age, giving your tree more definition and interest in the winter months after its leaves have gone. As your tree matures and its production increases, you’ll be able to experiment with the tiny berry-like fruit. They are very acidic raw, but birds and other animals love them. The fruit is also sometimes made into jelly, and parts of the tree have also been used medicinally.
