Coral Bells - Splendens The Coral Bells Splendens, 'Heuchera sanguinea 'Splendens', is an evergreen, tuft forming perennial producing vivid, scarlet flowers that bloom in late spring-early summer. The foliage is dark green, and geranium-like. The basal foliage is heart shaped or roundish with 5-7 slightly toothed lobes. Its crinkled lobed leaves remain dark green in color throughout the year. The unique-looking flowers of 'Splendens' coral bells are wonderful for a border. Making a great groundcover too, ‘Splendens’ is a low maintenance perennial, and should be cut back in late fall in preparation for winter. Coral bells are susceptible to rot, so good drainage is essential while roots establish themselves. Plant coral bells in average to moist conditions and don’t allow them to dry out. ‘Splendens’ performs well in both full sun and full shade; generally will do well under trees.
