Rhododendron - Hellikki - Sale Price: $51.35 Rhododendron - Helikki, Rhododendron x 'Helikki', is a fairly new dense broadleaf evergreen shrub with trusses of sumptuous and showy dark violet-red flowers. Appearing in spring, Helikki's flowers help make this a very effective accent! They blanket the shrub with stunning clusters of lightly scented trumpet-shaped flowers. Growing at a slow rate, this plant provides green foliage with narrow leaves that do not have any appreciable fall color; develops into an open multi-stemmed shrub with a more or less rounded form. Helikki rhododendron prefers cooler regions, is sun tolerant, and looks good year around. This easy care rhododendron needs excellent drainage, mulching and a peat moss soil additive. Roots will rot in poorly drained soil, so well-drained soil is a must! Helikki requires regular waterings, particularly in hot, dry weather; established plants can benefit from fertilization. Rhododendrons are ornamental, acidic-soil loving broad-leaf evergreens and are ideal for shrub borders and informal hedges. The most favorable time to prune is when there are no flower buds in the early spring, just before growth begins. |

This handsome shrub develops a rounded growth habit and has long shiny dark leaves. Multimaculatum is a hardy hybrid that is highly prized and was introduced more than 150 years ago, but is still valued for its vigor, exceptional cold hardiness and showy blooms! This medium-sized evergreen shrub can grow up to 6,000 feet in altitude. Multimaculatum favors chilly winters, moderate summers, partial shade, and highly organic, well-drained, acid soil. It requires regular waterings, particularly in hot, dry weather; established plants can benefit from fertilization. Rhododendrons are ornamental and are ideal for shrub borders and informal hedges. The most favorable time to prune is when there are no flower buds in the early spring, just before growth begins. |

| Grass - Black Mondo - Sale Price: $51.35 Grass - Black Mondo, Ophiopogon planiscapus 'Nigrescens', is a mondo grass that is especially noted for its amazing purplish-black leaves! It produces spikes of pink bell-shaped flowers and round bluish-black berries. The light pink flowers appear on dark stems rising slightly above to slightly below the foliage in summer, providing excellent contrast with the dark leaves! Since the leaves of this plant are nearly black, Nigrescens contrasts well with light-colored foliage plants like ferns and hostas. This small but mighty miniature plant has a lot to offer! Nigrescens is a good shade plant that develops slowly as a ground cover; may need some protection since it is not reliably winter hardy. Plant it in rich, humusy, medium moist, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade; best if soil does not dry out. Although rhizomatous, Nigrescens spreads very slowly and can be used as a border, in rock gardens, as a specimen, groupings, or a small area ground cover or path edger. |
