The Sargent Cranberrybush Viburnum, Viburnum sargentii, is very similar to American Cranberrybush, but will not grow as large. This shrub has beautiful white blooms with a low-to-the-ground branching habit. It will form a large upright, rounded, multi-stemmed shrub. It has a fantastic red fruit display with bright, translucent red drupes lasting well into January. In the fall, it provides an excellent red-purple color. 'Sargent Cranberrybush' Viburnum is very much like the 'Snowball' Viburnum, except that the leaves are thicker in texture, and it bears fruit. When used as a specimen or patio tree, leave plenty of room for root expansion. It grows best in full sun or partial shade, in moist, well-drained soil. Sargent is very vigorous and resistant to aphids. Will fruit best in sun but will also grow and flower in partial shade. Viburnums add seasonal interest with flowers, colorful fruits, fall color, stem and bark color, texture, and form. There is always space for a viburnum in any landscape, and this one will look terrific in yours as well! |
