Holly - Carissa - Sale Price: $64.25 The Holly 'Carissa', Ilex cornuta 'Carissa', is an outstanding dwarf and a dense grower. The leaves are dark glossy green with one spine at the tip. It is well suited for planting along a foundation, and it is excellent for use as a low hedge or in mass plantings. This 'Carissa' does not produce berries. 'Carissa' grows best in rich, well-drained, slightly acid soil, and does well in full sun or part shade. The plant is very drought tolerant, requiring little, if any, irrigation once established in the landscape. Fertilize once or twice to maintain good leaf color and adequate growth. This plant is often used on commercial landscape jobs where it is planted in mass in traffic islands, or planted in beds. If this plant is used as a hedge, prune the plant so it is wider at the bottom than at the top. This allows for light to get in to the bottom foliage and this will help keep the leaves from thinning. The Carissa prefers a pH of 5.0 to 6.5. Zones 6-9.

The creamy white, flat topped flowers entirely envelop the plant in late April or May. This viburnum has one of the most effective displays of bright, orange-red fruit in early July, lasting a month before turning black in fall. It has dark, hairy leaves that create a dark background to showcase other plants.  It displays a very compact growth habit. Mohican needs regular, weekly watering, or more often in extreme heat. It has deep burgundy leaves and attractive white button-like blooms in summer. Diabolo is easy to grow and is very hardy and can tolerate a wide range of conditions. It is tolerant of many soils, preferring a well-drained site. It will take some shade but will exhibit the best color in full sun. The 'Diablo', would be an excellent plant in back of the perennial garden or in mixed in shrub borders. The Diabolo is a fast grower and new shoots can be cut and used in floral arrangements. As with most ninebarks, it has attractive exfoliating bark and attractive fruits for 4 season interest. The flowers and foliage are great for cutting.
