New Jersey Tea
New Jersey Tea, Ceanothus ''Marie Bleu™', is an outstanding compact plant that is covered with loads of misty blue flower heads in late spring. Once flowing is finished, attractive red seed heads appear, adding another season of garden interest. 'Marie Bleu' is truly garden worthy. Marie Bleu is well adapted to most any garden soil, so long as it is not too wet. It is tolerant of drought once it is established. Shear lightly after blooming to produce a stronger rebloom. Prune in late fall or early spring. In Northern states, this plant may dieback to the ground though roots are hardy and the plant will recover in time to flower. The name New Jersey tea probably came from the use of these plants dried leaves. Allegedly, this was a popular tea in the Revolutionary War. The New Jersey Tea plant is highly adaptable to various soils and is quite drought tolerant due to its massive, deep root system. There is always space for New Jersey Tea in any landscape, and it will look terrific in yours as well!

The Ninebark 'Diablo', Physocarpus opulifolius 'Diabolo', is a fast growing plant. It has deep burgundy leaves and attractive white button-like blooms in summer. Diabolo is easy to grow and is very hardy and can tolerate a wide range of conditions. It is tolerant of many soils, preferring a well-drained site. It will take some shade but will exhibit the best color in full sun. The 'Diablo', would be an excellent plant in back of the perennial garden or in mixed in shrub borders. The Diabolo is a fast grower and new shoots can be cut and used in floral arrangements. As with most ninebarks, it has attractive exfoliating bark and attractive fruits for 4 season interest. The Forest Rouge Blackhaw Viburnum, Viburnum prunifolium 'McKRouge', is a trademarked selection made by Dan Moore at Mckay Nursery. This shrub has a dense, more oval, upright branching form than the species. The foliage emerges yellow green and ages to a dark, shiny green. It is grown for this glossy, fine, smooth, textured foliage. Dark red young stems are a lovely contrast to the emerging yellow-green foliage. Clusters of creamy-white flowers appear in spring followed by bluish-black berries that persist through fall until winter. The fall color starts early on plants that are in full sun, and they will hold late into the season. The plant is appropriately named because the 'Forest Rouge Blackhawk' has an outstanding maroon fall color. Forest Rouge Blackhaw works well for wildlife or naturalizing areas. The Swamp Chestnut Oak tree, Quercus michauxii, is known also as a Basket Oak for the baskets made from its wood, and Cow Oak because cows eat the acorns! One of the important timber trees of the South, it grows on moist and wet loamy soils of bottom lands, along streams and borders of swamps. The high quality wood is used in all kinds of construction and for implements. The acorns are sweet and serve as food for wildlife. Swamp Chestnut Oak trees are well-formed and become quite large (80 feet tall) with a narrow crown. Swamp Chestnut Oak strongly prefers soils that are moist, permanently moist, or permanently wet, and tolerates standing water (as in periodically inundated floodplains) for several weeks at a time. Good seed crops occur at intervals of 3-5 years with poor to fair production in between. Swamp Chestnut Oak trees are deciduous and have leaves that vary from four to eight inches in length and are downy beneath.
