The small pink flowers in spring are followed by small black fruit in late summer. The dark green foliage turns yellow to red in the fall. It likes full sun; prefers a moist, well-drained soil, but can tolerate dryness; is wind tolerant; tolerates alkaline soil, and somewhat tolerant of salt. Hedge Contoneaster's excellent dense screen is good for hedges, bank covers, groupings, and wildlife habitat or shelterbelt filler.
