Tulip - Monsella
Tulip - Monsella The Tulip 'Monsella', 'Tulipa double early', is a fall planted bulb. This tulip is a fragrant sport of Monte Carlo. Monsella is canary-yellow, feathered blood-red, while the inside is sulphur-yellow with blood-red flames. As their name implies, double early tulips bloom early in the season with long-lasting, rose-like double flowers which open flat in the full sun. When planted in a compact group, these short-stemmed tulips develop into a magnificent carpet of color. Combine them with early daffodils and hyacinths for a wonderful welcome to spring. These tulips bloom in early spring for a 3 week period. For the best effects, plant the bulbs in clusters of 5 to 15 bulbs of one variety, or scatter clusters throughout the garden or flower border. Tulips do best in well-drained soil. It is advisable not to plant tulips in the same location in the garden year after year. If possible, plant in a somewhat sheltered location. Tulips are excellent for mass planting, rock gardens, containers and borders.

This gorgeous variety produces large, soft pink flowers, of perfect form with a delightful fragrance. They produce superb, long lasting cut flowers. During late spring-early summer, they fill the garden with fragrance. They will bloom 3 to 4 weeks in late spring. The Peony tolerates some drought but thrives in moist, fertile, well-draining soil. If your soil is extremely acid, add some lime at planting time. Plant the roots with the eyes (buds) pointing up and place them 1 below the soil level. Peonies usually take a few years to establish and bloom heavily. Staking is recommended. Peonies attract butterflies and are great cut flowers and borders. They are also deer, rabbit, and squirrel resistant. For a tidy appearance, remove spent flowers after blooming. After a heavy frost, cut the foliage to the ground and remove from the area. Peonies do not need to be divided and can be left in place for years! If you desire a peony, this is a must have! |
