It is a densely branched, slow-growing shrub with numerous small, smooth-edged leaves. They are usually dark green and shiny, remaining on the shrub all winter. It prefers full sun to partial shade. For best results, mulch to keep root system cool and moist. Common Boxwood does well in alkaline soils; the evergreen foliage needs to be protected from drying winds in winter.
