It is a leggy, suckering, deciduous shrub, somewhat irregular in shape. It is a strong, long lived; popular shrub that is easily grown in a neutral soil, with peat or leaf mold enrichment, and it prefers full sun. Katherine Havemeyer Lilac tolerates light shade, but best bloom is in full sun. It grows 10-12 feet tall and 8-10 feet wide which makes a very colorful border or screen.
