Corkscrew Willow - Sale Price: $61.35 The Corkscrew Willow tree, Salix matsudana, 'Tortuosa', is a small to medium-sized, upright spreading tree of about 30 feet in height with a 15-foot-spread. This deciduous tree is also known as Tortuosa or Dragon's Claw Willow.  The main ornamental feature of this plant is the contorted and twisted branches and twigs.  Branches arise from the trunk at an acute angle and grow up almost parallel to the trunk before they curve back to the horizontal. Hazelnut - Sale Price: $71.35 Attractive Shrub with Edible Nuts The Hazelnut is a lovely shrub that will provide edible nuts in the fall and be a friend to wildlife year round.  Plant some as a hedgerow along your property boarder, or plant several in a naturalized area where they’ll be able to spread.   The Hazelnut is a remarkable plant.  It can grow almost anywhere and achieve its mature size in no time at all.  It won’t mind if you prune it at any time of the year, so you can trim and mold it to whatever shape or space you prefer.  It grows to 12 feet tall with a 15 foot spread, so you don’t need much space in your yard to enjoy a Hazelnut, and wildlife will thank you for providing them with one of their favorite plants. In the spring, 3-inch clusters of male catkins appear, their yellow-brown tassels gently swaying in the warm breeze.  If you look close you’ll discover the female flower.  It’s a tiny purple surprise hidden among the branches.  Dark green, heart-shaped, 3-6 inch serrated leaves will soon fill out your Hazelnut for summer. When fall arrives, your Hazelnut colors will vary, from oranges and yellows to the color of a deep red wine. Bitternut Hickory - Sale Price: $85.65 The Bitternut Hickory, Carya cordiformis, is also known as the Yellow-bud Hickory tree. Other common names are Swamp Hickory and Pignut Hickory. The yellow bud makes it difficult to mistake for another species and combined with the alternate compound leaves and relatively large nuts, it is very distinctive. The nuts are reported to be bitter, as one of the common names suggests. The lighter colored shallow cracks in the younger bark are roughly similar to those of young Shagbark Hickory, but the mature bark of Yellow-bud Hickory does not split so deeply. This deciduous tree is found on moist, fertile soils in the east and central U.S. and is intolerant of shade. Bitternut Hickory trees are known for their hard wood. The wood is used for pulpwood and furniture. This deciduous species displays a leaf color of medium green to dark green. The fall color is often green to chartreuse, but sometimes is a brilliant golden-yellow in excellent seasons. It is a fast growing, adaptable tree. This hickory is self-pollinating.

Chinkapin Oak - Sale Price: $59.95 The Chinkapin Oak tree, Quercus muehlenbergii, is the limestone equivalent of the chestnut oak, occurring as a dominant species on rocky alkaline uplands. This is not a fussy tree and it will adapt too many soil types! This oak is also known as bray oak, chestnut oak, rock chestnut oak, yellow oak and rock oak. This oak tree is also sometimes commonly called yellow chestnut oak. Chinkapin oak is a medium sized deciduous oak of the white oak group that typically grows 40-60’ tall with an open globular crown. The fruits are small oval acorns with scaly cups that extend to approximately 1/2 the acorn length. Acorns are valued food for a variety of wildlife. Chinkapin oak trees have narrow, shiny green leaves that have coarse marginal teeth. Leaves somewhat resemble the leaves of chestnut (Castanea) whose nut is sometimes called a chinquapin, hence the common name of this oak. Its acorn is sweet and edible. The thin leaves provide light shade. Fall color is variable, but it usually displays shades of yellow and brown. Chinkapin is not used extensively as an ornamental tree, although it is quite tolerant of tougher sites. This cedar prefers moist, deep soils, but is tolerant of dry, sandy soils and does best in full sun.  Fastigiata is tolerant of pollution and urban conditions so makes a great tree for city parks. It may get considerable needle burn and injury during cold winters or when sited poorly in windy locations.  Severely winter burned trees generally recover well if established.
