Barberry - Golden Carpet Barberry - Golden Carpet, Berberis thunbergii 'Golden Carpet', is characterized by a dense prostrate habit and its yellow foliage; branches are slender, spiny, and small. Its leaves are roundly oval and bright yellow in color. The small pale pink flowers bloom beneath the leaves, from April to May, and are not showy. Bright red berries can be found along stems of this barberry from late fall through winter and are borne singly or in clusters of 2-4 fruits at each node; tear-drop shaped fruit can provide fall and early winter interest. Plant in any soil in a sunny or partially shaded position, but preferably sunny for best fruit and autumn color. The foliage color continues throughout the summer season when grown in full sun; when grown in partial or full shade, the color of the foliage of Golden Carpet tends to be yellow-green or green.
