Double Flowering Plum - Tree Form - Sale Price: $122.75 The Double Flowering plum, ‘Prunus triloba’ is grown in tree form. This large shrub has been trained to a head, forming at two to three feet on a single stem. A familiar sight across the northeast quadrant of the U.S in May, the Double Flowering Plum (or Rose Tree of China), puts on quite a show with its gorgeous double candy-pink flowers blanketing each branch with fat pom-poms of color. It tends toward a round shape, is a robust grower and easily rivals the annual display of Washington cherry blossoms in northern areas. From a distance, a stand of these trees looks like a pink cotton cloud; few spring-blooming trees get the reaction that this one does. The foliage is more of a grass-green than dark green, and turns to an attractive yellow-bronze color in the fall. The Double Flowering Plum can take a lot of abuse in terms of soil condition, but it does need good sun, good drainage and ample room to perform at its best. Zones 3-8. |
| Crimson King Maple - Sale Price: $92.75 Shade Tree with Outstanding Color By far the most outstanding feature of the Crimson King Maple is its summer leaf color. While other homeowners have to wait until fall for their Maples to display vivid colors, your Crimson King will do so all summer long. Its star-shaped, classic Maple leaves are an engaging deep purple-maroon that stands out amid the usual greens of the summer landscape. As an added bonus, your Crimson King will be dotted with petite yellow flowers in the spring to the delight of the neighborhood’s butterflies and bees. Seeds will later develop, with a two winged structure that is as entertaining as it is useful. Their enchanting descent to the ground, spinning on the autumn breeze is a sight to behold…if the birds don’t snatch them up first. When fall arrives your Crimson King’s purple foliage will give one last burst of color as its dark purple shade transform into a bronze hue. | Sunburst Honeylocust - Sale Price: $107.05 Shade Tree with a Tropical Feel The Sunburst Honeylocust is a deciduous tree prized for its lovely foliage. They make lovely front yard specimens, and a few planted along the street would also draw attention. Your Sunburst Locust’s light green leaves and open canopy will create the charming effect of dappled sunlight in your yard rather than the full shade that more dense trees provide. It’s a way to have shade without the heavy, sometimes overwhelming presence of the larger trees such as Oaks or Redwoods. Your Locust is big without being too big and shady without being too shady for your grass and other plantings. Having a Sunburst Locust is a way for you to have all the benefits of a Locust tree without the two features many people dislike. By choosing a Sunburst Locust, you’ll be free of the thorns (that can be quite sharp), and the seed pods (that can be messy), that other Locusts have. Leaves of the Sunburst Locust are eight inches long and composed of many small, individual leaflets. This gives the foliage a tropical, fern-like appearance and will feel pleasantly soft and smooth as you run the leaves through your fingers. Leaves begin as yellow in the spring, transition to green and again turn yellow in the fall. Small green-yellow flowers form in the spring and into early summer, but aren’t very showy. Bees and other pollinators will love the Locust in your yard though, and make good use of those early blooms. The Sunburst Locust’s hardy nature means you won’t have to provide any special care to ensure its success. It can also grow up to 2 feet a year, so you won’t have to wait long for a mature tree to grace your yard. The Sunburst Locust is a lovely tree and a superior choice for your landscape. * Attractive foliage* No thorns or seed pods* Fast growing |
