Spirea - Norman - Sale Price: $51.35 Norman Spirea, spiraea japonica 'Norman', is a dwarf and compact spirea with intense rosy pink flowers on a background of mint green foliage. It displays a raspberry-purple to red fall color, lasting approximately one month. ‘Norman’ is easily grown in average, medium, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. This plant prefers full sun and tolerates a wide range of soils.   Remove faded flower clusters to prolong additional bloom, and it is best to prune in late winter to early spring. The plant also likes mulch and summer watering. Since this plant grows only 3 feet tall and as wide, ‘Norman’ is effective in the border, cottage garden or as a low, informal hedge. Chokeberry - Upright Red - Sale Price: $29.95 The Upright Chokeberry, Aronia arbutifolia 'Erecta', is very upright shrub with exceptional red fall color. Besides its excellent red autumn color, it has a profuse production of red fruits. The 0.25 fruits are borne along the stem, and although highly ornamental, are not eaten by birds. The white flowers precede the fruit but are not as ornamental. It does well in heavier soils, is quite shade tolerant, and requires little pruning. This slow growing, suckering shrub transplants well. Upright Chokeberry is very adaptable to moist/wet sites, and is appropriate for naturalizing and for attracting wildlife. Use in mass plantings, borders, informal hedges, or low screens.

Barberry - Red Leaf Japanese - Sale Price: $49.95 The Barberry bush or Red Leaf Japanese bush, Berberis thunbergii, is a deciduous shrub reaching up to 24 tall and about 30 wide. The branches are slender, spiny, and small, and the leaves are roundly oval in a deep red to purple color. The small, yellow flowers borne beneath leaves, from April to May, are not showy. Bright red berries can be found along stems from late fall through winter. Ironically, this is never really considered a feature of this plant. Barberry bushes are best located in full sun. This plant is tolerant of many types of soil, but will not do well in wet to very moist soils. As name Barberry implies, this makes an excellent hedge or filler shrub.

It displays powdery light blue flowers that are produced in late summer when few other shrubs bloom. It makes a shapely rounded bush, and its light colored lance-shaped leaves visually blur with the blue of the flowers. Before flowering, Arthur J. Simmonds makes a fine foliaged, formal shape that combines well with golden grasses. This is a relatively small shrub that will die back to the ground during the winter.
