Periwinkle - Ralph Shugert - Sale Price: $56.95 The Periwinkle, Vinca minor 'Ralph Shugert', produces dark, glossy green, and white margined foliage which gives it the variegated appearance. Periwinkle is also known as myrtle. The deep lilac flowers are numerous, larger than the species, and appear in both spring and fall. It is an excellent groundcover for flower beds and it forms a dense weed suppressing cover. It grows to 6 inches and spreads to cover a large area. Hosta - Guardian Angel - Sale Price: $42.75 Hosta Guardian Angel, Hosta 'Guardian Angel', is a sport of 'Blue Angel’.  This hosta has large blue-green leaves that put on a show in early spring by displaying white centers.  As the plant matures, it tends to keep its white centers longer into the spring season. 'Guardian Angel' is quite unique because it offers this unusual color patterning: in the spring, the center of each new leaf is bright white, while the margins are cool blue!  This is the just the opposite of normal hosta leaf patterns. By late spring, a distinctive green misting covers the white centers, and in midsummer, clusters of light lavender flowers are produced.  Hosta 'Guardian Angel' has been chosen as a Popularity Poll winning specimen! This attractive sport of Hosta 'Blue Angel' can be somewhat slow growing, but will make a large mound when mature. 'Guardian Angel' is a low care perennial and is ideal for shady positions, tubs and patio pots, and one of the most popular landscape uses.  It is best to keep areas around hostas clear of excess leaf debris to reduce the presence of slugs and snails. It grows well in moist, well-drained, highly organic soils with a pH between 5.5 and 7.5.  Sandy loam is better than clay because it provides more aeration for the roots. Dianthus - Fire and Ice - Sale Price: $39.95 Dianthus Fire and Ice, Dianthus 'Fire and Ice', displays a rich, deep pink raspberry color.  It is a stunning and fragrant 1-1½ flower that is splashed with light pink dots and trimmed with nearly smooth cool white picotee edging. ‘Fire and Ice’ is unlike some dianthus in that it has nearly smooth edged petals.  It offers a profusion of flowers with a lovely sweet fragrance that will attract butterflies! The grey-green foliage of this dianthus, and its rounded compact habit, make it a fabulous plant for borders, in mass, or containers.  Add a layer of mulch to protect the evergreen foliage in colder climates, but once the weather becomes warmer, remove the mulch. This will prevent root rot. ‘Fire and Ice’ needs a sunny site with well-drained soil, but will tolerate some shade in the afternoon along with humidity.  Regular watering during prolonged dry spells will be necessary.  However, this plant is tolerant of short periods of dryness. Butterfly Plant - Cinderella - Sale Price: $39.95 Butterfly Plant Cinderella, Asclepias incarnata 'Cinderella', is a virtually hassle-free perennial, offering three months of vanilla-scented, rose-pink flowers in large, compact clusters from midsummer to early fall. Deadheading the flowers will stimulate another bloom cycle about a month after the first one. The flowers, which are heavily laden with nectar and pollen, are particularly attractive to hummingbirds, butterflies, bees, and other beneficial insects. Asclepias incarnata is easily grown in medium to wet soils in full sun. It is surprisingly tolerant of average well-drained soils in cultivation even though the species is native to swamps and wet meadows. Plants have deep taproots and are best left undisturbed once established. Foliage is slow to emerge in spring. Once established, Swamp Milkweed requires little care. Though it is perfectly cold-hardy in the north, mulching plants in winter will help prevent frost-heaving. In spring, trim back last year's growth and await the beautiful new foliage that will appear a bit later than other perennials.
