False Cypress - Soft Serve Chamaecyparis Soft Serve, Soft Serve™ Chamaecyparis pisfera 'Dow Whiting', is a compact, slow growing, lush, and conical evergreen that is the perfect size for use as a specimen or landscape hedge. It sports soft fern-like branches that have rich bright green leaves; an attractive blue tint appears on the underside of the foliage. Soft Serve is extremely adaptable, but prefers moist, loamy, well-drained, lime-free soils. Requires no pruning, but to keep smaller minimal pruning can be done in summer. It does need protection from harsh winter sun and winds, so select location carefully. Soft Serve is a perfect plant for containers, hedges, mixed shrub-perennials borders, containers, hedges, mixed borders, and accents. It becomes a winter shelter for songbirds and quail! Zones 5-7.
