Rhododendron - Firestorm
Rhododendron - Firestorm Rhododendron - Firestorm, Rhododendron x 'Firestorm', is a wonderful evergreen with bright red wavy edged blossoms that are over 3 inches across that are held in large dome shaped clusters. Each flower is openly funnel shaped. The new leaves are frosty, lime green, darkening as they age. Firestorm is smaller in stature, dense, and spreading which makes it a versatile landscape shrub for foundation planting and mixed borders. (A sister seedling of 'Scarlet Romance'.) This easy care rhododendron needs excellent drainage, mulching and a peat moss soil additive. Roots will rot in poorly drained soil, so well-drained soil is a must! Rhododendrons are ornamental, acidic-soil loving broad-leaf evergreens and are ideal for shrub borders and informal hedges. The most favorable time to prune is when there are no flower buds in the early spring, just before growth begins. * Red, Red, Red!

Holly - Dwarf Burford - Sale Price: $106.95 The Dwarf Holly 'Burford', Ilex cornuta 'Burfordii Nana', is a more compact and slower growing form of Burford, having the same characteristics, except the leaves are smaller. 'Dwarf Burford' is best used in the landscape, as a specimen, an accent plant, or as a wind break; often planted beneath windows, where its slow growth and shorter stature makes it attractive from indoors and out. In the spring this plant produces clusters of fragrant white flowers. Later in the summer berry-like fruits develop. The colorful red berry is very showy in the fall. The berries persist on the bush for a long time, or until the birds eat them. This plant needs regular watering; weekly, or more often in extreme heat. Follow a regular watering schedule during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system. Feed with a general purpose fertilizer before new growth begins in spring. Excellent in the landscape border, in Japanese-themed gardens or as a frame for water features. Plant Crimson Pygmy against golds, yellows and deep greens for stark contrast, or as a companion to anything in the pink/rose spectrum for sheer beauty. Full sun, regular watering and soil that’s a bit on the acid side will serve this shrub well. After its root system is large and well established, it will only need watering during periods of drought. Zones 4-8. |
