The Grass 'Little Bluestem', Schizachyrium scoparium, is a native American prairie grass. It is also know as Sagegrass or Beard grass'. It can reach up to 3-4' and has a blueish hue to the leaves. The leaves turn a rich orangy wheat color in fall.It will tolerate poor soils. A great plant for mass plantings. It provides cover and feeding sites for quail, turkeys and other ground nesting birds. Flowers are scattered along the upper parts of the stem branches, with long hairs creating a feathery appearance. There is a single, white,hairy flower cluster at the tip of each stalk.

The Grass 'The Blues Little Bluestem Grass', Schizachyrium scoparium 'The Blues', has attractive deep blue foliage. The fall color is a burgundy red. It works well in mass plantings. It does well in a variety of soil types and is drought tolerant. Extra water and fertilization is not needed! The attractive foliage is upright and is open to spreading the fine textured leaves. Little Blues Bluestem grasses have delicate and inconspicuous inflorescence in late summer and become silvery when dried. The foliage remains attractive in winter. The fall color varies from tan to copper, orange, and dark orange red. To keep this plant looking neat, prune back to the ground in early spring before new growth begins. The Coral Bells Marmalade, Heuchera 'Marmalade' (PP15,945), has maple leafed foliage in varying shades of amber to bronze.  Taller shoots of brown colored flowers appear on this evergreen plant in late spring. As it matures to a golden color, the foliage features contrasting hot pink undersides! Coral bells are grown more for their foliage color but the small blooms that they contain will attract hummingbirds.   Like most coral bells, 'Marmalade' thrives in partial sunlight but once established it will also grow in shade.  This variety of coral bell may also grow in full sun in cooler climates. 'Marmalade' grows best in a rich, well-drained soil; water and fertilize regularly throughout the growing season.  Use this coral bell as a ground cover, in rock gardens, as a border plant or as an edging along paths and walkways.
