The Grass 'Shenandoah Switch Grass', Panicum virgatum 'Shenandoah', has a burgundy-red color to the foliage. This one starts out red in June, by mid-summer it looks like Bloodgrass, and in fall, it is a rich burgundy. The foliage starts out as deep green but takes on the red color thru the summer. The 4' height makes this a good choice for a specimen plant. It is one of the shortest Switch Grass varieties available. Given full sun and average soil, it is a moderate to fast grower. This plant will grow in dry to moist soils or well-drained, loamy, sandy or clay soils with a pH of a neutral to slightly alkaline. In early spring, before new growth begins, cut the old grass to the ground. If you want to divide the clump, do so in the spring. Its attributes include naturalizing, attracting birds and suitable for cut and dried flowers. A lot to love with this plant! The Grass 'Adagio Maiden', Miscanthus sinensis 'Adagio', is a compact clump-forming grass with slender silvery foliage.  The flowers emerge pink in summer, changing to silvery white in the fall. The late season bronzy flower plumes that rise above the foliage can reach 5 feet tall.  In cool climates the foliage has a late fall seasonal change of color turning orange, gold and burgundy! The Salvia ‘May Night’, Salvia nemorosa ‘Mainacht’, has glowing purple stems loaded with violet-purple flowers that bloom from June to October. With its blue-gray, lance-shaped aromatic foliage, it makes an attractive accent all summer long. It has a plant height of 18” and a spread of 18-24” and stays in excellent compact form. It was selected Perennial Plant of the year in 1997, and one can see why. Salvia ‘May Night’ should be planted in full sun in a moist well-drained area. The Japanese Spurge 'Green Sheen', Pachysandra terminalis 'Green Sheen', has lustrous, shiny green leaves; the sheen is so impressive you think it can't be real! It is an evergreen ground cover, and the plant has a tidy habit which makes it a landscape winner.  It grows in deep shade and is ideal for using under shallow rooted trees. Maturing at a height of 12 inches, it spreads slowly to moderately fast by underground rhizomes.  'Green Sheen' prefers well drained, organically rich loam and shade.  It will tolerate some sun in northern zones, but needs shade in southern zones. The Hosta Yankee Blue, Hosta 'Yankee Blue', is a vigorous, fast growing blue colored hosta that will command attention in any garden or landscape! ‘Yankee Blue’ has elongated wedge-shaped leaves with wavy margins that hold their blue color all summer, then later in the season, the color changes to blue-green. Near white flowers appear on tall scapes in midsummer.  ‘Yankee Blue’ is a hosta that forms a full, symmetrical, wide mound that really brightens up a shady area. Plant this low care plant in an area that receives the right amount of light.  The leaves need some morning sun to bring out the best coloration; too much sun will burn the leaves.  'Yankee Blue' is most at home in shady, woodland settings and often works well as specimen or edging plant.
