Clematis - Dr. Ruppel - Sale Price: $42.75 Clematis Dr. Ruppel, Clematis 'Dr. Ruppel', features deep rose-pink 8 inch flowers that have petals with bold carmine-red central bars. Wonderfully free flowering plants bloom in late spring and again in late summer. Its compact habit makes 'Dr. Ruppel' one of the best for container growing. It is also known for its large attractive spherical seed heads. Good cut flower variety. Awarded Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. Clematis 'Dr. Ruppel' needs a supporting structure to grow properly but will also grow over large shrubs, over walls, cover stumps, and make perfect cover ups for unsightly service areas. Clematis is easy to grow in a rich, porous, alkaline soil with plenty of room for the roots to spread. Best performance is when the tops are in full sunlight and the roots are shaded, so apply a generous mulch or a shallow-rooted ground cover near the base of the vine. The reddish flowers are showy but not quite as fluffy as most. 'Yaku Jima' is a slightly bigger plant than 'Adagio', but the main difference is that its leaves are even narrower, almost needle fine! Being very hardy and low growing, it tolerates a wide range of soil types; moderately drought tolerant; holds up to wind and snow.
