Yarrow - Paprika
The Yarrow ‘Paprika’, Achillea millefolium, is an upright gold centered, fading to light pink & creamy yellow, Yarrow that blooms from June through September. With fern-like aromatic silvery to gray-green foliage, it is considered to be one of the best yarrows in any landscape. The foliage has a somewhat strong, spicy aroma, which persists when used in dried arrangements. The flower heads are 3-4” wide, with a spread of 18-24” and a height of 24”. This Yarrow does well in average garden soils, but prefers lean, dry to medium wet, well-drained soil. (Avoid heavy clays and moist, rich, fertile soils.) Yarrow should be planted in full sun and is tolerant to hot humid summers. ‘Paprika’ is excellent for cutting, fresh or dried. Remove faded flowers regularly to promote continued blooming. Inclined to spread, so site this carefully or plan to reduce the clumps each spring. For an attraction to butterflies, deer and rabbit resistant, one can’t go wrong with this plant.

False Indigo Twilite Prairieblues, Baptisia 'Twilite Prairieblues™' PPAF, is an amazing, vigorous and strong growing hybrid of Baptisia australis and Baptisia sphaerocarpa.  This new color breakthrough is the result of extensive breeding efforts at the Chicago Botanical Garden. By the third year 'Twilite Prairieblues™' PPAF produces almost 100 flower spikes of unique deep pea-like violet-purple flowers, highlighted by a dramatic lemon-yellow keel.  Held above the handsome blue-green foliage, the inflorescences can be up to 32 inches long!  When 'Twilite Prairieblues™' is not in bloom, this plant remains attractive because of the lovely blue-green colored leaves it displays, especially throughout the spring season! It is a good, vigorous grower, extremely long lived, and destined to become a favorite in the garden.  The Baptisia looks attractive by itself, against walls and fences, or combined in the back of a border with other June bloomers.   Full sun is best for the most successful flowering and performance.  It grows well in average to dry soil but adapts to most conditions.   'Twilite Prairieblues™' has a very deep tap root, giving it the ability to survive long dry periods and making it a challenge to move once it is established.  The plant can be cut back after flowering to encourage a flush of new blue-green growth.  It is deer resistant. The Astilbe ‘Fanal’, Astilbe arendsii, is a colorful feathery flower with deep red blooms and lacy deep green or bronze-green foliage. The foliage in spring is mahogany, but as autumn approaches, the blooms turn to shades of brown that look wonderful in winter snowscapes.
