Hackberry - DetailsHackberry - Sale Price: $64.25
Fast Growing Tree with Edible Fruit The Hackberry is a fast growing, deciduous tree that produces edible fruit. Plant one in your yard for its shade and seasonal interest, especially if you have a place where the soil is too poor for other trees. Your Hackberry can grow up to 60 feet with a 40-50 foot spread, so it’s quite an expansive shade tree for your yard. It has a cylindrical shape with 5-inch alternate, green leaves with undersides of a slightly yellow hue. Those leaves will turn completely yellow in autumn for a showy accent in your yard. Your Hackberry’s foliage arrives at the same time as the ¼-inch spring flowers, giving your tree a vivacious, lime-green appearance that will certainly draw your eye. Those flowers will eventually give way to 1/3-inch, deep-purple drupes that can persist on your tree into the winter months. The drupes have a somewhat date-like flavor and were traditionally used by Native Americans as a food source. Wildlife will also treasure the tiny fruits for the added nutrition they can provide, in addition to the shelter and nesting opportunities the tree presents. The Hackberry’s trunk has a corky appearance, offering some added decorative definition to the barren winter landscape. That wood can also be used for furniture or other projects (it’s soft but heavy). Hackberry trees are tolerant of most conditions, including wind and urban conditions. It’s a great way to have an impressive shade tree with ornamental appeal in less time than other large trees would require. The edible fruit sweetens the deal as a fun and useful addition to an already outstanding tree. * Fast-growing shade* Spring and fall color* Edible fruit* Wildlife interest

Double Flowering Plum - Tree Form - DetailsDouble Flowering Plum - Tree Form - Sale Price: $122.75
The Double Flowering plum, ‘Prunus triloba’ is grown in tree form. This large shrub has been trained to a head, forming at two to three feet on a single stem. A familiar sight across the northeast quadrant of the U.S in May, the Double Flowering Plum (or Rose Tree of China), puts on quite a show with its gorgeous double candy-pink flowers blanketing each branch with fat pom-poms of color. It tends toward a round shape, is a robust grower and easily rivals the annual display of Washington cherry blossoms in northern areas. From a distance, a stand of these trees looks like a pink cotton cloud; few spring-blooming trees get the reaction that this one does. The foliage is more of a grass-green than dark green, and turns to an attractive yellow-bronze color in the fall. The Double Flowering Plum can take a lot of abuse in terms of soil condition, but it does need good sun, good drainage and ample room to perform at its best. Zones 3-8.

Think of the legacy you will provide for your children and grandchildren by planting an Elm in the yard! Your American Elm provides ornamental interest for every season The six inch deciduous leaves are ovate shaped with toothed edges, their dark green color a vibrant addition to the summer surroundings. Small green flowers form in spring, and although you’re not likely to notice them, the bees, butterflies and other pollinators of your yard certainly will. As the leaves begin to form, the flowers will turn from their subtle beauty to the Elm seed. Single, and surrounded by a flat, oval paper-like membrane, the seeds provide beneficial sustenance for birds and small mammals. In the fall, your American Elm’s foliage transforms to a pleasing yellow. Even in the coldest of seasons, when most trees provide little of interest, the dark grey and deeply furrowed bark of your Elm will present a pleasing feature for the winter landscape. The American Elm is a hardy tree tolerant of drought and urban conditions. It won’t cost you a lot of time or effort to maintain, and will provide many years of shade and beauty for your yard. * Fast-growing* Long-lived* Hardy
