Rhododendron - Korean Rhododendron - Korean, Rhododendron mucronulatum, is a shrub that is native to northern China, Korea, and Japan and develops an upright, rounded or oval habit. In mid spring, Korean Rhododendron produces stunning rosy purple flowers that are showy and widely funnel-shaped. This plant comes into bloom during the first warm spring weather, and the flowers open successively from clusters of buds at the end of the shoots before the leaves expand. The leaves are deciduous (shed in autumn), but they turn yellow and bronze before falling. This rhododendron requires partial to full shade and moist, well-drained soil; does best in acidic soil. Use the Korean Rhododendron for shrub borders, groupings, or mix with evergreens.
