It is adaptable to different soil conditions, and is even drought tolerant once established. The Jim Dandy produces showy, deep green leaves. Although technically an evergreen shrub, the Jim Dandy does loose a majority of its leaves in cooler zones. Holly shrubs are often grown for their showy, red berries in the winter, but keep in mind that only female plants produce the berries (and their must be a male cultivar present). The Jim Dandy is a male cultivar that is a great pollinizer for female cultivars such as the 'Red Sprite' and 'Berry Heavy.'
