Ash - Mancana
Ash - Mancana Ash - Mancana, Fraxinus mandshurica 'Mancana', has become popular and trendy. It is not large and spreading like many other ash trees, but has upward arching branches. It is ideal for smaller yards, parking strips, or an area where there isn’t much room for a canopy. This is an extremely hardy seedless ash that is a medium sized shade tree with a tightly rounded, almost lollipop shape; develops into a broad oval form. The branches are strong and stout and can shrug off the heaviest snows and most ice storms. 'Mancana' Ash is a bright green color and presents a cool, refreshing look during the summer months. It puts on a fantastic show in the fall when the leaves turn an intense chrome yellow. The leaves will drop in unison so you only have to rake them once! After the leaves have fallen, you can enjoy the new wood since it displays its yellow color all through the winter. Manchurian Ash is adaptable to many soil and climate conditions and is easily transplanted. The 'Mancana' Ash has no pest problems and tolerates poor, dry, or wet soils. With full sun, good soil, and ample water, it can grow about 2 to 3 feet a year. This is a low maintenance tree, and should only be pruned in summer after the leaves have fully developed.
