Astilbe - Visions in Red
The Astilbe Chinensis Visions in Red PP#119, 'Chinensis Visions', produces rusty maroon red flowers that are tinted with a faint rosy tone that is ever-changing as the flower plume matures throughout the spring.   The spectacular upright rigid plumes grow on amazingly sturdy stems.  The ‘Visions in Red’ plumes offer a striking contrast against the coarsely textured, blue-green foliage.  These spring blooming beauties are ideal for borders, containers, and gardens on the edge of woodlands. Astilbe is admired for its attractive foliage and elegant flower plumes.  The summer lacy deep green foliage adds a ferny texture to garden beds long after the blooms have faded. For maximum color and impact, mass ‘Red Visions’ astilbe in groups in partly shaded gardens Astilbe needs well drained, but moist and highly organic soil; humusy forest gardens are a perfect example of where these plants will thrive. Drifts of this ‘Visions in Red’ Astilbe are stunning as the deep red buds open purplish-red.  Pair with other white blooming shade plants like Japanese Orchids or Peonies. * Upright plumes * Attractive foliage * Easy to grow

The Echinacea ‘Magnus’ Coneflower, Echinacea purpurea, also known as Purple Coneflower, Hedge coneflower, and Black Sampson, is an easy to grow flower. It produces beautiful deep purple daisy-like flowers that are a bit larger than the rest of its family.  It was Perennial Plant of the Year in 1998, one can see why! ‘Magnus’ blooms from July to October and is a major attractor to butterflies and bees; deer resistant.  It is a must for any perennial garden.  With its dark green foliage, Echinacea ‘Magnus’ stands 3’ high with a plant spread of 18-24”. Dianthus Fire and Ice, Dianthus 'Fire and Ice', displays a rich, deep pink raspberry color.  It is a stunning and fragrant 1-1½ flower that is splashed with light pink dots and trimmed with nearly smooth cool white picotee edging. ‘Fire and Ice’ is unlike some dianthus in that it has nearly smooth edged petals.  It offers a profusion of flowers with a lovely sweet fragrance that will attract butterflies! The grey-green foliage of this dianthus, and its rounded compact habit, make it a fabulous plant for borders, in mass, or containers.  Add a layer of mulch to protect the evergreen foliage in colder climates, but once the weather becomes warmer, remove the mulch. This will prevent root rot. ‘Fire and Ice’ needs a sunny site with well-drained soil, but will tolerate some shade in the afternoon along with humidity.  Regular watering during prolonged dry spells will be necessary.  However, this plant is tolerant of short periods of dryness. The charming flowers look wonderful as a border plant, rock gardens, along walks or paths, for edging and a definite in cottage gardens. ‘Fire and Ice’ provides showers of cheerful raspberry colored flowers that are dappled in pink.  You can enjoy them in early spring, and again in early fall! * Easy to grow * Hardy * Drought tolerant
