The Brilliance Fern, 'Dryopteris 'Brilliance', is a new colorful and more brilliant form of the Autumn Fern. The young fronds of the cultivars are showy and orange. The fronds hold their glossy green sheen at maturity. The growth habit is identical to the Autumn, but as a whole, it is dramatically more showy.  Its new growth is a brighter red, and its coloring last longer. This fern is a great addition to the fern garden. The Brilliance Fern is an evergreen fern and is slow-spreading.  It’s easy to grow and is surprisingly drought tolerant once established in a garden. Requiring little care, it will thrive in many locations that discourage fussier plants. 'Elegans', Hosta sieboldiana, is an extra large hosta with heart-shaped leaves.  Being blue-green in color, it has a heavy, deeply tucked texture with powdery like cast which make it very striking! The white flowers bloom from July to August, and this plant has a height of 30” and a spread of 48-60”.  'Elegans' provides bright color in shade with its colorful textured foliage. The Yarrow Saucy Seduction, Achillea millefolium 'Saucy Seduction' PPAF, is part of the Seduction series. This line is known for sturdy, compact growth, long bloom periods, and interesting flowers. 'Saucy Seduction' PPAF produces clusters of rich rose-pink flowers, each with a tiny white eye, and subtle white shading from June into August. Rich green foliage with silvery highlights forms dense upright columns. 'Saucy Seduction' PPAF proves to be an excellent garden performer, along with being drought and heat tolerant. Achilles is great for cut bouquets and they can also be used as a dried flower. Yarrow can tolerate poor soil conditions, but does best in lean, dry to medium wet, well-drained soil. Hemerocallis Nosferatu, Hemerocallis 'Nosferatu', shows off its huge, broad triangle-shaped petals!   It has fragrant 6 flowers that have a shiny dark purple color. These ruffled blossoms prove to hold their color in the sun and have more prominent veining in their purple petals. ‘Nosferatu’ blooms mid season, has a very high bud count, is an easy to grow variety, and will stand up to even the harshest of conditions. This daylily is a semi evergreen tetraploid.  Individual flowers last only one day, but since each plant produces many buds, the total blooming time of a well-established clump may last more than a month; attracts butterflies. Use ‘Nosferatu’ daylily for color in shrub borders and in perennial beds.  Once established, the daylily can be an excellent groundcover on slopes because it has roots that hold soil against erosion.  Divide every 3-5 years, or when the number of flower buds and the size of bloom begin to decline.   Plant daylilies in sites that provide well-drained soil and plenty of sun. Individual flowers last only one day, but since each plant produces many buds, the total blooming time of a well-established clump may last more than a month.   The ‘Nosferatu’ daylily can survive many harsh conditions that other plants cannot including: polluted city environments, slopes, poor and dry soils, near pavement that is salted in winter, and under Black Walnut trees (not affected by juglone). The Coreopsis ‘Moonbeam’, Coreopsis verticillata, is the most popular perennial in its family. ‘Moonbeam’ was named Perennial of the Year in 1995 and one can see why. With its clusters of light yellow, daisy-like blooms and its green airy fernlike foliage, ‘Moonbeam’ Coreopsis blooms from June through October and is mildew resistant. ‘Moonbeam’ stands at 24” and has a plant spread of 18-24”. ‘Moonbeam’ should be planted in full sun. It is drought-tolerant and tough but does need well-drained soil. It should be cut backing early and late summer to extend the bloom period. Coreopsis ‘Moonbeam’ looks great with Coreopsis ‘Sweet Dreams’, and with any type of grass, in borders or mass plantings in sunny gardens. No garden should be without it.
