Canada Red Select Cherry - Tree Form Canada Red Select Cherry - Tree Form, Prunus virginiana 'Shubert Select', is a beautiful small tree with maroon-red foliage. The new growth is green, maturing to maroon-red. The small, white flowers in spring produce small, red fruits in summer that are savored by birds. This fruit is an edible chokecherry. Canada Red has a vigorous growth, straight trunk and uniform top. Its foliage is a darker red, with a thicker leaf texture than regular Canada Red. Proper soil conditions are necessary for normal growth with this variety. Pay special attention to insure good drainage and aeration. This tree is best used in borders, screens or masses and prefers full sun and tolerates clay and high pH. It grows 20-25 feet tall and 18-20 feet wide.
