Clematis - Petit Faucon - Sale Price: $42.75 Clematis Petit Faucon, Clematis 'Petit Faucon', is an extraordinary and unique plant with unusual purple-blue flowers and a compact habit. At first the buds open to twisting petals that have bright orange-yellow stamens.  As they mature, the flowers turn to a rich blue around creamy stamens. Even in a hot, dry summer this plant continues to bloom strong! The fluffy white seed heads are beautiful and the combination of deep violet flowers and silvery seed puffs is stunning!   Petit Faucon is an extremely vigorous, free flowering, and strong growing clematis.  Early flowers appear on the previous season's growth while late summer flowers appear on new growth.  Petit Faucon blooms May-June and August-September. Best performance is when the tops are in full sunlight and the roots are shaded, so apply generous mulch or a shallow-rooted ground cover near the base of the vine. It needs a supporting structure to grow properly but will also grow over large shrubs, over walls, and can be used as a container plant. Prune lightly above the new leaf buds in early spring and remove any dead or weak stems. Clematis Petit Faucon is a very reliable performer once established; it takes a season or two to get going. Scabiosa - Butterfly Blue - Sale Price: $49.95 The Scabiosa 'Butterfly Blue’, Scabiosa columbaria, also known as the Pincushion Flower, has wonderful 2 lavender-blue flowers that bloom from June to October. ‘Butterfly Blue’ is a reminiscent of a pincushion full of pins. With its gray-green foliage, it has a plant height of 12” and a spread of 12-18. It is also disease resistant. Scabiosa ‘Butterfly Blue’ was name Perennial Plant of the Year in 2000, and one can see why. It is best to plant Scabiosa in full sun, with well-drained soil and should be watered regularly throughout the warmer months to increase its overall performance. Deadheading after the first bloom will encourage repeat bloom time. ‘Butterfly Blue’ is great for attracting butterflies and hummingbirds and does excellent in rock gardens. Yarrow - Red Velvet - Sale Price: $64.25 The Yarrow Red Velvet, Achillea millefolium 'Red Velvet' , is a clump-forming herbaceous perennial with stunning deep, wine red, non-fading, four inch flower heads. These striking red flowers appear on deep green lacy foliage from mid-summer to early autumn. If you cut or deadhead the blooms promptly, it will rebloom for weeks! Prune Red Velvet to the ground level and add a nice dose of manure each winter to enhance foliage growth. This yarrow benefits from a layer of mulch to retain soil moisture, but does grow under poorer conditions since it is drought tolerant. Follow a regular watering schedule during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system. Divide clumps every 2 to 3 years in early spring. Remove faded flowers to encourage more growth and divide every 3-4 years. For an attraction to butterflies, deer and rabbit resistant, one can’t go wrong with this plant.
