The Green Ash tree, Fraxinus Pennsylvanica, is a fast growing shade tree with rich green foliage and an upswept branching habit. It is very adaptable to many soil and moisture conditions. This medium sized tree has beautiful yellow foliage in the fall. Green Ash trees withstands drought, excessive moisture, and wind. This deciduous trees is so adaptable, that it is widely used in windbreaks and shelterbelts. The crown is densely rounded or irregular. The leaf stems are velvety. The lance shaped leaflets are a lustrous medium to dark green. Fall color is yellow.

The Chickasaw Plum tree, Prunus angustifolia, is a deciduous multi-stemmed shrub or small tree which occurs in thickets, pastures, fields, fencerows, stream banks and disturbed areas. Chickasaw Plum trees are sometimes seen as a small short-trunked tree growing to 25' tall.  Beautiful 5-petaled white flowers appear along the stems in March before the foliage emerges.   The flowers are followed by small, cherry-like, edible, red to yellow plums which ripen in early to mid summer.  Although the plums may be eaten raw, they are somewhat tart and acidic, and are perhaps best used in preserves and jellies. Native Americans regularly consumed the fruit fresh or dried it for winter.  The sweet fruit is eaten by deer, bear, fox and raccoon. The Box Elder Maple tree, Acer negundo, is also commonly known as Ashleaf maple, Manitoba maple, Box-elder maple, and Western box-elder.  This deciduous maple tree is a small-to-medium-sized tree, reaching heights of 50 to 75 feet, with a trunk diameter up to 4 feet.  The trunk is relatively short and tapering, and the crown is spreading and bushy.  It is more often seen as a smaller tree with cane-like, bright green branches. Box Elder trees are fast growing and tolerate poor conditions. Although it grows best on moist soils, box-elder is drought and cold resistant.  It can also tolerate flooding for extended periods (up to a month). The bark is smooth on young trees and then as it gets older the bark develops narrow ridges; mature trees have dark brown bark.  These shade trees have brittle wood.  Boxelder bugs eat seeds on female trees.  The seeds are also a source of food for birds and mammals, and are important because they stay on the tree through winter, when other food resources are scarce! * Fast growing * Tolerates flooding * Food for wildlife
