The Hosta Liberty, Hosta 'Liberty' (PP12,531), is a sport of the well known variety Sagae and is considered by many to be the finest Hosta ever introduced! Getting rave reviews from experts, this medium sized Hosta has a dark green leaves with a wide golden yellow margin that changes to cream in the summer.  In late summer, each clump is topped with spikes of hummingbird-friendly lavender flowers. 'Liberty' provides bright color in shade with wonderful foliage and needs to be planted in a full shade area in any moist, well-drained spot.  ‘Liberty’ is one of the best variegated slug resistant hostas! 'Liberty' is a low care perennial and is ideal for shady positions and is one of the most popular for landscapes.  It is best to keep areas around hostas clear of excess leaf debris to reduce the presence of slugs and snails. It grows well in moist, well-drained, highly organic soils with a pH between 5.5 and 7.5.  Sandy loam is better than clay because it provides more aeration for the roots. Plant 'Liberty' in an area that receives the right amount of light.  The leaves need some morning sun to bring out the best coloration; too much sun will burn the leaves. The Echinacea ‘Magnus’ Coneflower, Echinacea purpurea, also known as Purple Coneflower, Hedge coneflower, and Black Sampson, is an easy to grow flower. It produces beautiful deep purple daisy-like flowers that are a bit larger than the rest of its family.  It was Perennial Plant of the Year in 1998, one can see why! ‘Magnus’ blooms from July to October and is a major attractor to butterflies and bees; deer resistant.  It is a must for any perennial garden.  With its dark green foliage, Echinacea ‘Magnus’ stands 3’ high with a plant spread of 18-24”. Hemerocallis Nosferatu, Hemerocallis 'Nosferatu', shows off its huge, broad triangle-shaped petals!   It has fragrant 6 flowers that have a shiny dark purple color. These ruffled blossoms prove to hold their color in the sun and have more prominent veining in their purple petals. ‘Nosferatu’ blooms mid season, has a very high bud count, is an easy to grow variety, and will stand up to even the harshest of conditions. This daylily is a semi evergreen tetraploid.  Individual flowers last only one day, but since each plant produces many buds, the total blooming time of a well-established clump may last more than a month; attracts butterflies. Use ‘Nosferatu’ daylily for color in shrub borders and in perennial beds.  Once established, the daylily can be an excellent groundcover on slopes because it has roots that hold soil against erosion.  Divide every 3-5 years, or when the number of flower buds and the size of bloom begin to decline.   Plant daylilies in sites that provide well-drained soil and plenty of sun.
