Rose - Lucida - Shrub - Sale Price: $57.05 The Lucida Rose, Rosa virginiana 'Virginia Rose', is a shrub, with many spreading branches. It has hairy stems with curved thorns. Its leaves are split into smaller leaflets; each leaflet is dark green with teeth, up to 2.5 long. These leaves turn purplish red in the fall. Lucida Rose is a great plant to use for clearings, shores, and roadsides. It also excels in mixed borders, hedges, and as specimens. Lucida is tolerant of harsh conditions, including salt spray, wind, and poor soil. The rose hips from the Virginia rose are completely edible to both humans and animals, and are extremely rich in Vitamin C. Rose - White Rugosa - Shrub - Sale Price: $57.05 White Rugosa Rose, Rosa rugosa alba, is like Rosa rugosa, but this white rose adapts to a variety of conditions, including where salt tolerance is a concern. It is salt-tolerant so it is useful in northern climates along roadside or driveways that are being deiced regularly with salt. Its pale blush pink buds open to highly fragrant snow-white blooms with creamy yellow stamens. In fall, the disease resistant foliage takes on shades of orange and scarlet to accompany the large orange red hips. This Rugosa develops 1 inch orange/red berries (hips) in August which last through the winter to provide food for wildlife. This rose has its own root. The advantage of own root roses is that once established they are very resilient. Grootendorst', displays clusters of small crimson flowers with frilled edges and they have spicy fragrance. These cute red flowers resemble fringed red carnations. It has crinkly, bright green foliage on a bushy, vigorous, upright shrub and blooms from June until frost. It will grow to about 2 1/2’ if pruned back each spring. F. J. Grootendorst is very thorny like most rugosas and is a repeat bloomer. Rugosa roses are very tolerant of harsh conditions. They can tolerate wind, poor soil and salt spray. Grootendorst grow best in fertile, moist, well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Provide good air circulation and remove fallen leaves to help prevent disease.
