Columbine - Blue Barlow
Columbine - Blue Barlow The Columbine Blue Barlow, 'Aquilegia vulgaris 'Blue Barlow', produces unusual double, dahlia-like blooms that are blue-violet and lack the typical columbine spurs that nod gracefully above compact foliage in late spring. This plant grows to 2 feet tall and wide. Deadheading is recommended to prolong blooming. The wonderful plants perform best when planted in partially shaded areas. Blue Barlow blooms in late spring to early summer and it can be used as a cut flower. Columbine is an easy to grow perennial and produces large, showy blooms of single and bicolor patterns on airy plants with blue-green foliage. Being very hardy, the columbine will likely survive the first light frosts, and then go dormant for the winter. Blue Barlow will do well in average soils and tolerates dry soil conditions; the soil should be well drained. This plant does not require mulching or protection in the winter. Hummingbirds love the showy blooms that are loaded with nectar! * Hardy * Double blooms * Tolerates dry soils
