Holly - Castle Wall - Sale Price: $49.95 The Holly Castle Wall, 'llex x 'Castle Wall' (PP14,308), a Proven Winners selection, is one of the new blue evergreen hollies that are great for foundation plants. Castle Wall is compact and pyramidal in form. The narrow form makes them great for hedges, foundation plantings, or as a specimen. The lustrous green foliage provides season long interest. Castle Wall is the male plant used to pollinate the Castle Spire Holly, which is the female plant. This holly is very adaptable to wet soils, whether light or heavy soils. If you have a saturated areas this holly is most likely to succeed in the boggy conditions. Use this plant in groupings, massing, borders, screens, or hedges. It has small dark green leaves and the bark is typically reddish brown and the berries, when present, are red. Erecta prefers a moist, slightly acidic soil with a decent amount of light; can tolerate some shade. Erecta is excellent for hedges or as a backdrop in the formal garden. Erecta is less compact than 'Stricta' and with smaller leaves. This slender shrub tolerates shearing, is especially tolerant of shade, and is drought tolerant once established. Erecta Yew is an excellent choice for hedging where space is limited.

It is good in conjunction with rhododendrons and azaleas. The leaves are reminiscent of witch hazel, to which fothergilla is related. Spring Green’s foliage emerges reddish and ages to a glossy dark green.  The white flowers are very attractive, and somewhat fragrant. It produces orange fruit, which persists into winter, and then displays a stunning red fall color.  'Spring Green' does best in moist, well-drained, loamy soils, but will tolerate less than ideal conditions and heavier clay soils. Pruning allows this shrub to maintain its natural shape while encouraging the development of new wood. It does not tolerate prolonged drought or dense shade.  It makes an excellent low hedge or specimen plant.  It is less formal than other compact selections.
