Hosta - Gold Standard
Hosta - Gold Standard The Hosta 'Gold Standard', Hosta fortunei, has heart-shaped large broad leaves with creamy yellow and variable dark green margins. The pinkish, lavender flowers bloom from July to August, and it has a plant height of 24” and a spread of 36-48”. Hostas provide bright color in shade with their wonderful foliage. Hosta ‘Gold Standard’ needs to be planted in a full shade area in any moist, well-drained area. Hosta ‘Gold Standard’ was an American Hosta Society multiple winner, and is one of the most popular gold hostas on the market! This low care perennial is ideal for shady positions, tubs and patio pots, and one of the most popular for landscape uses. A great choice for any beginner gardener. It grows best in moist, well-drained, highly organic soils with a pH between 5.5 and 7.5. Sandy loam is better than clay because it provides more aeration for the roots. Plant ‘Gold Standard’ in an area that receives the right amount of light. The leaves need some morning sun to bring the rich golden color out; too much sun then the leaves will burn. ‘Gold Standard’ is most at home in shady, woodland settings and often works well in containers. Because of its stunning golden color and more horizontal habit, ‘Gold Standard’ is a great choice for mass plantings! * Heart shaped leaves * Popular * Horizontal habit

| Fern - Christmas - Sale Price: $42.75 The Christmas Fern, 'Polystichum acrostichoides', occurs in both dry and moist wooded slopes, moist banks and ravines. It typically grows in a fountain-like clump to 2' tall and features leathery, lance-shaped, evergreen (green at Christmas time as the common name suggests) fronds. The stocking shape of the pinnae also suggests Christmas! Crosiers (young fiddleheads) in spring are silvery and scaled. Sori appear on the undersides of the pinnae only at the ends (last 1/3) of the fronds. Christmas ferns are asymmetrical with a fine texture and have a moderately dense crown. The evergreen fronds provide good winter interest for the landscape. This fern does not spread but the clumps increase in size over time. These plants serve as wonderful hosts for butterfly larvae and are great for erosion control. For best results, plant this fern in a garden in masses, or add to shade beds for year round color and contrasts with other perennials. This Christmas fern is popular because it is one of the few ferns that will stay green all winter long! * Evergreen * Fine textured * Non spreading |
