Hosta - Little Sunspot
Hosta - Little Sunspot Hosta Little Sunspot, Hosta 'Little Sunspot', is cute and petite. This small hosta is great for containers or landscape edging. Hosta 'Little Sunspot' was developed by Briggs Nursery and is a sport of 'Little Aurora'. The small gold leaves are boldly edged with .5 green margins and are slightly cupped. In midsummer, white flowers with delicate pale lavender stripes, are produced on 16 tall scapes. 'Little Sunspot' is a low care perennial and is ideal for shady positions and is one of the most popular for landscapes. It is best to keep areas around hostas clear of excess leaf debris to reduce the presence of slugs and snails. It grows well in moist, well-drained, highly organic soils with a pH between 5.5 and 7.5. Sandy loam is better than clay because it provides more aeration for the roots. Plant 'Little Sunspot' in an area that receives the right amount of light. The leaves need some morning sun to bring out the best coloration; too much sun will burn the leaves. This charming, brightly colored Hosta can be mixed with other perennials in shady borders, rock gardens or woodland gardens, or used as an edging plant. If you want a showy ground cover, plant ’Little Sunspot’ in mass plantings! * Small plant * Boldly edged leaves * Low maintenance

It would make a wonderful groundcover or a border in your perennial bed. Your Dwarf Mondo Grass is a grass similar to lawn grass, with a dark green color. As it grows it abandons its erect stance and adopts a rather elegant manner, slightly bowing for a gentle, soft appearance. In the summer tiny blue flowers form, resembling little balls, adding a bit of additional decorative appeal. Dwarf Mondo Grass is a low growing grass that grows to about 4 inches, so if you use it as a lawn substitute keeping it short won’t be a problem, and you won’t spend all your weekends mowing it. It’s drought resistant, so no need to water. Even pests seem to avoid it, eliminating the need for costly pesticides. It also develops a thick mat of roots so planting it against foundations can aid in dealing with water run-off. Two of the enemies of grasses, deer and bunnies, tend to leave it alone, and it can even handle heavy traffic so using it around paving stones would be no problem at all.
