Hosta - Silver Bay - Sale Price: $39.95 Hosta Silver Bay, Hosta 'Silver Bay', is one of the best new blue hostas on the market, and one of the most talked about hostas in recent years!   The heart-shaped, intense, silver blue leaves form an attractive mound.  The leaves are also thick and heavily corrugated.  Pale lavender flowers top the mound in mid-late summer.  'Silver Bay' is a real winner! Hostas grow best in moist, well-drained, highly organic soils with a pH between 5.5 and 7.5.  Sandy loam is better than clay because it provides more aeration for the roots.  It is best to keep areas around hostas clear of excess leaf debris to reduce the presence of slugs and snails.  Plant this low care plant in an area that receives the right amount of light.  The leaves need some morning sun to bring out the best coloration; too much sun will burn the leaves.  'Silver Bay' is most at home in shady, woodland settings and often works well as specimen or edging plant. The advantage of own root roses is that once established they are very resilient. Being named Perennial of the Year in 1991, one can see why. With its unique deep purple foliage, fading to bronzy green in hot summers, and its dark red stems, it is a little different than the rest. In the springtime, small pinkish and white flowers appear that last into the summer, however, Coral Bells are not known for their flowers, but their foliage. ‘Palace Purple’ has a plant spread of 10-15” and a height of 12-18”.  It is best to grow it in medium wet, well-drained soils, in full shade. (It can tolerate some morning sun.) ‘Palace Purple’ looks especially good around the edge of borders, near variegated plants, woodland edges, rock gardens, perennial borders, or in mass to form an attractive ground cover. Cold and drought tolerant and withstanding heat and humidity, nothing seems to phase this plant.  ‘Palace Purple’ needs about one inch of water per week; divide clumps in fall.
