Tinkerbelle® Lilac, Syringa 'Bailbelle' (PP12,294), is one of the Fairytale® Series and has an upright shape with incredible wine red flower buds. They open to single, bright pink blooms, with a spicy fragrance, in late spring. Tinkerbelle lilac is an excellent choice for foundation plantings or as a specimen. This lilac tolerates light shade, but best bloom quality and disease resistance occur in full sun. It prefers rich, moist, neutral soils. It should be pruned as needed immediately after flowering. This upright lilac forms a wonderful small tree, with rosy-lilac buds that are wonderfully fragrant. It grows 5-6 feet in height and 4-5 feet in width. It is a rounded, upright, non-suckering, deciduous shrub, and is perhaps best noted for its compact shape.

The Blue Rug is so named because of its silver-blue color and low growing habit. Blue Rug will do well in almost any well drained soil and needs moderate moisture. This is the lowest growing of all Juniper plants and they will even cascade over walls. Prune young shoots to encourage branching, but older branches may not produce new growth. This plant prefers an acidic soil for best results. In the fall this plant will produce small, round, dark berries. The berries add to the landscape effect. It is pH adaptable and salt tolerant. Use this plant for mass planting, on banks, in rock gardens, planter boxes, and around tall shrubs or trees.

The Aucuba Gold Dust, 'Aucuba japonica 'Variegata', is a compact growing evergreen shrub 6 to 10 feet high and has slightly less in spread w ith large glossy dark-green leaves heavily sprinkled with yellow spots. This plant will brighten any shady location. The glossy foliage appears to splashed with yellow paint. Gold Dust responds well to pruning. It can be kept severely pruned to a compact three foot by three foot shrub. Prune in the spring before new growth begins. It is ideal as a dense screen and in difficult spots in foundation plantings. It is excellent for urban sites and stands up well to inner-city pollution. Aucubas prefer shade and will thrive in the shadiest of spots, even under trees where no grass grows. 'Gold Dust' will flower in early spring and produce red berries in October.
