Witch-hazel - Common - Sale Price: $64.25 The Common Witch-Hazel, Hamamelis virginiana, is extraordinary in its flowering habits. It flowers in late October to early December. Many times its slender yellow petals are the only signs of color in the dormant woods. Witch-hazel is pollinated by the winter moth. After pollination, the fruits become dormant for the winter, developing over the following growing season and maturing in the fall, 10-12 months after pollination. Seeds are dispersed by gravity, or are eaten and excreted by birds. Witch-hazel seeds germinate the following spring or enter the seed bank. Early growth is slow, and in fact remains slow throughout the life of the tree in its typical shady habitat. As individuals, witch-hazel probably does not live more than 100 years, but they reproduce from root sprouts, and clones may live for a very long time.

It has showy yellow pea like flowers that appear in late May. The bark of the trunk and stems retain a greenish color for several years. The small leaflets are medium green in color. The Peashrub is often used as a windbreak or tall informal hedge. The Peashrubs are cold and drought tolerant. When planting for hedge, place plants about 4-5 feet apart. Siberian Peashrubs are deciduous and have low water requirements, and a moderate salt & alkali tolerance. If you have an area that is extremely difficult, you may want to try this shrub! The fruits are also enjoyed by wildlife. This peashrub is very low maintenance!

Dogwood - Isanti - Sale Price: $99.95 The Dogwood 'Isanti', Cornus sericea 'Isanti', is a fine-twigged Dogwood with red bark. White flowers in late spring are followed by abundant white fruit. The mounding plants grow 4 to 5 feet tall and spreading 4 to 8 feet. Isanti is very adaptable and will thrive in sun or partial shade. The Isanti requires a soil with adequate moisture, otherwise adaptable as it tolerates wet sites. Isanti Dogwoods are slower growing and more compact than the species, making it more usable in the landscape than the species. This plant is known for its rapid growth, bright red stems, and fruit that attract wildlife. The best stem color is on new wood. After the 3rd year, prune back 30% of the stems each year in order to promote new wood growth to get the best red winter color. Zones 2-7.
