Buffaloberry - Silver
Silver Buffaloberry, 'Shepherdia argentea', is an ornamental shrub that has silvery new growth and thorny branches. The orange-red berries can be used for fine jellies. It has a rounded shape and yellow-white flowers. It makes an excellent hedge or specimen plant. This drought tolerant shrub or small tree typically grows 8-12 feet tall and as wide. The silver-green leaves give it spring and summer interest, but its silver stems and red to yellow fruit make it attractive all winter long. It is as tough as nails and is not susceptible to any particular pest or disease. This is an underused plant that deserves more attention. It likes full sun, moderate water, tolerant of cold, wind, alkaline soil, and standing water. It has edible berries that the birds love. Zones 2-6. * Wildlife Plant * Tough * Cold Tolerant

Sumac - Rocky Mountain - DetailsSumac - Rocky Mountain - Sale Price: $92.75
The Rocky Mountain Sumac, Rhus glabra cismontana 'Rocky Mountain', is a suckering, thicket-forming plant with small upright tree-like branches. On female plants, yellow-green flowers are followed by bright-red, hairy berries in erect, pyramidal clusters which persist throughout winter. It can be used as a “specimen thicket” in industrial landscapes and is quite valuable for adding a tropical, lush look to a xeric garden. In a planned landscape, the species is most effective when drifts or colonies, typical of natural settings, are allowed to establish. The colonies can be rejuvenated every few years by cutting them to the ground in mid-winter. 'Rocky Mountain' Sumac will grow in dry waste areas, such as impossible slopes where even junipers struggle. It is fast growing, generally pest and disease-free, and drought-tolerant.

Pussy Willow - Black - DetailsPussy Willow - Black - Sale Price: $49.95
Pussy Willow - Black, Salix gracilistylus ‘Melanostachys’ is a quick growing shrub with flowers/catkins that form along the stems of the plant. The procession of black catkins resembling little black caterpillars can range from a half-inch to two inches in length, starting small early in the season, then lengthening and changing color as they mature. The female catkins stay flat black until well-expanded, but males will add a fine-textured, silky red to orange staminate haze. Black Pussy Willow will spread aggressively by underground roots and above ground suckers, but you can prune this plant pretty severely to keep it in check. The nearly toothless leaves on the upper surface are deep green, the lower a soft gray-green. The leaves often take on a tattered appearance by fall; tree will occasionally produce a yellow fall color display. Although it does not like standing water, the Black Pussy Willow does like to have water nearby. Planting it in full sun will help keep some of the fungal problems in check. It is quite tolerant of many soil types as well as moderate road salt and pollution exposure. The branches, along with the catkins, can make elegant and divine bouquets.
