Hosta - Patriot - Sale Price: $42.75 The Hosta ‘Patriot’, Hosta fortunei, has heart-shaped, glossy medium green leaves with a large white margin, making this variety very striking! The Hosta flowers bloom from July to August, and it has a plant height of 22” and a spread of 36-48”.   ‘Patriot’ provides bright color in shade with its wonderful foliage. Hosta ‘Patriot’ was the American Hosta Growers’ Hosta of the Year in 1997.  If you have ever seen it, you will know why; it literally brings light to shade! This is a low care perennial and is ideal for shady positions and is one of the most popular for landscapes.  It is best to keep areas around hostas clear of excess leaf debris to reduce the presence of slugs and snails. It is at home in well moist, well-drained, highly organic soils with a pH between 5.5 and 7.5.  Sandy loam is better than clay because it provides more aeration for the roots. Plant ‘Patriot’ in an area that receives the right amount of light.  The leaves need some morning sun to bring out the best coloration; too much sun will burn the leaves. Sedum - Lemon Drop - Sale Price: $49.95 Sedum Lemon Drop, Sedum 'Lemon Drop', is a neat little plant for rock gardens or as a ground cover. This selection has nice succulent green leaves and bright yellow flowers that appear in late summer and fall. The sprays of the bright yellow flowers are held just above the foliage on this easy-to-grow plant. Lemon Drop hugs the ground and may reach just 6 inches in height, but has a 12 inch spread. It is best to apply a thin layer of compost each spring, followed by a 2-inch layer of mulch to retain moisture and control weeds. Lemon Drop needs extra watering during the summer if rainfall is less than 1 inch per week. Choose an area where the plant will receive sunlight for at least 6 hours a day. It is a vigorous, evergreen, self-clinging or trailing vine with 3 to 5 lobed, glossy leaves with prominent veins. This ivy likes well-drained soil and makes a beautiful ground cover when established. Thorndale English Ivy will attach and grow up brick walls, but can be used in hanging baskets, or as a houseplant. It is very hardy and trouble-free, though it should never be allowed to grow up the trunks of trees. Major pruning should be done in early spring.
