Coral Berry - Amethystâ„¢
Coral Berry - Amethystâ„¢ The Coral Berry Amethyst™, Symphoricarpos x doorenbosii 'Kordes', a Proven Winners selection, produces deep purple-pink fruit that is much brighter and showier in the landscape than other Coral Berry cultivars. Amethyst™ Coral Berry displays a neat branching habit unlike some other rangy Coral Berries. This plant is great for the home garden by providing vivid pink fruit or berry color in late-summer. The small white midsummer flowers produce hot pink berries in late summer. For a neat winter decoration, use the berry-laden winter stems for indoor floral arrangements. This coral berry is deer resistant. Besides having significant winter interest, it is an important wildlife plant. Songbirds, ground birds, small mammals and browsers use the plant for food, cover, and nesting. The Amethyst is very tolerant of any soil, native on limestone and clay but the location needs to be well-drained. You get best results if pruned in late fall or early spring. The plant requires medium moisture. Fertilize in early spring by applying a slow release fertilizer specialized for trees and shrubs.
