Lilac - Miss Kim Fragrant Blooms and Surprising Fall Color The Miss Kim Lilac is a compact shrub that has the best fall color of any Lilac. James MacFarlane is an elegant, hardy shrub which will make a colorful informal hedge, or can be grown as a specimen shrub or small tree. | Rhododendron - Haaga - Sale Price: $51.35 The Rhododendron Haaga, 'Haaga Rhododendron', is a new, hardy, dwarf variety from the University of Helsinki, Finland. It produces dark pink flowers which contrast nicely with the dark green, coarse foliage. The Haaga will begin to bloom in May. This plant needs excellent drainage, mulching and a peat moss soil additive. Roots will rot in poorly drained soil. It will not do well in windy sites. This shrub is fussy about its soil conditions. The soil needs to be rich and acidic. It is a good practice to apply thick mulch around the root zone in colder climates. Any pruning should be done after flowering in order to avoid removing any of the current season’s flowers! The Haaga is a dense evergreen shrub and it is a highly valued landscape ornamental. The large groups of showy pink flowers appear on even young plants. The Haaga is a very effective accent plant. Dwarf Rhododendron! |
| Barberry - Concorde - Sale Price: $32.95 Commonly known as Japanese Barberry, this compact little shrub’s burgundy-colored foliage is a dramatic —and welcome— contrast in a landscape dominated by green everything-else. ‘Concorde’ has very small teardrop-shaped leaves on thorny branches which form an orderly round plant that tops out at not much more than a couple of feet. Use ‘Concorde’ as a foundation planting or berm or border edging, and in any number of other small, sunny spaces where you need a plant of a different color. Full sun keeps the leaves their pretty royal purple color, which will gently turn deep red in the fall, and through the winter you’ll be treated to lovely red berries. A slightly acidic soil will benefit this slow-growing, pest-free shrub (which is also hypo-allergenic and resistant to deer, drought and disease). To tilt the pH, just tap a few nails into the soil under the shrub canopy. Pruning is only required to change its shape or overall size. Zones 4-8. There is always space for Concorde in any landscape, and it will look terrific in yours as well. Plant in full sun. |
| Snowberry - White - Sale Price: $54.25 White Snowberry, symphoricarpos 'white hedge', has dainty pink flowers that appear in July. It is accented with blue-green foliage, and then produces large white berries in autumn. Snowberry is unique because few shrubs produce white berries! Hummingbirds love the flowers, and in the fall the white berries are an excellent food for birds. The berries hang on all season so they offer winter and spring landscape interest. Snowberry is good for holding soil on steep bank and prefers light sun and moist conditions. This plant works best when planted in masses or mixed with several other plants of similar height. White Snowberry is a dense, twiggy shrub that grows 5-6 feet tall and 3-6 feet wide, and it spreads by suckers underground. This plant prefers sun to medium shade, tolerates any soil, and is easy to transplant. It should be pruned before new growth begins. It is a delicate looking plant with a quietly enchanting quality. The egg white berries seem to float lightly in the air, all about the plant. This and their small, scattered leaf pattern, give the plant a low but airy quality! * White berries * Delicate looking * Twiggy shrub |
