Clematis Jackmanii Superba, Clematis 'Jackmanii Superba', is known to be an improved Clematis 'Jackmanii' with its broader petals and deeper rich purple color when flowers first open. The 5 flowers transition from deep purple to a lighter violet with age. 'Jackmanii Superba' is an excellent cultivar for later season color - blooming from midsummer to early fall. Jackmanii can also be used as a ground cover! Clematis 'Jackmanii Superba' is easy to grow in a rich, porous, alkaline soil with plenty of room for the roots to spread. Clematis perform best perform when the tops are in full sunlight and the roots are shaded. Apply mulch or plant a shallow rooted groundcover to keep the roots cool and shaded. Flowers are produced on new growth so prune this plant back to 1 to 2 feet in late winter or early spring. * Tolerates juglone or black walnut roots* Deer resistant* Flowers heavily

Euphorbia First Blush, Euphorbia epithymoides 'First Blush' (PP#15,292), is a spectacular cushion spurge with light green leaves that are edged in bright rose-pink and cream from spring into summer. The beautiful, compact mounds are topped with striking bright yellow, almost chartreuse, bracts that appear in spring and gradually mature to match the foliage.   ‘First Blush’ is a deer and rabbit resistant perennial! Hosta Sleeping Beauty, Hosta 'Sleeping Beauty', is a sport of the award winning Hosta 'Halcyon' and is one of our favorites! The pointed, frosty blue-green leaves are complemented by a lovely creamy margin.  Hosta 'Sleeping Beauty' is a superb grower with thick, slug resistant foliage; pale lavender blue flowers appear in mid-summer.  Hostas grow best in moist, well-drained, highly organic soils with a pH between 5.5 and 7.5.  Sandy loam is better than clay because it provides more aeration for the roots.  It is best to keep areas around hostas clear of excess leaf debris to reduce the presence of slugs and snails.  Plant this low care plant in an area that receives the right amount of light.  The leaves need some morning sun to bring out the best coloration; too much sun will burn the leaves. 'Sleeping Beauty'' is most at home in shady, woodland settings and often works well as specimen or edging plant. The Yarrow ‘Moonshine’, Achillea 'Moonshine'’, is an upright canary-yellow flower that blooms from June through September. With evergreen foliage in mild winter regions, this non-spreading Achillea is a definite winner. ‘Moonshine’ Yarrow is unlike the common Yarrow, being shorter in height and less invasive. The flower heads are 4” wide, with a spread of 18-24” and a height of 24”. ‘Moonshine’ Yarrow is a great addition to a sunny perennial border, planted in pots or combined with ornamental grasses. ‘Moonshine’ can tolerate poor soil conditions, but does best in lean, dry to medium wet, well-drained soil. (Avoid heavy clays and moist, rich, fertile soils.) Yarrow should be planted in full sun and is tolerant to hot humid summers. Use this plant in borders, as cut and dried flowers, and in containers. Remove faded flowers to encourage more growth and divide every 3-4 years. The Phlox Blue Paradise, Phlox paniculata 'Blue Paradise', has fragrant blossoms of lavender blue with white eyes and tiny red centers. Blue Paradise was a new variety in 2004. Blooming from July to August, it has a plant height of 22” and a spread of 18”. It is a definite addition to any perennial garden. Blue Paradise needs to be planted in a full sun area in well-drained soil. Use Blue Paradise in rock gardens, as a border or in a cut flower garden.

Stella de Oro’ (sometimes spelled Stella d’Oro) has become a bona fide garden favorite, with almost too many benefits to mention!
