Liriope - Variegated The Liriope 'Variegated', Liriope muscari 'Variegata', is by far one of the most popular liriope. It is also known as Liriope variegated lily-turf, so is, as its name implies, a variegated border grass! The grassy foliage is edged with creamy yellow. It has purple-blue blooms, similar to grape hyacinths, that appear on top the tidy 9 to 12 plants in early fall. The flowers are followed by very dark purple, almost black, berries. This 'Variegated' liriope is excellent for edging and ground covers; when planting, space 12-15 apart. The bright variegated leaves make a super edging plant that highlights partially shaded beds; brings a sense of light into darker plantings so when choosing a site, Variegated’ liriope works extremely well as a border plant, especially for edging around sidewalks. ‘Variegated’ is one of the best choices for a care-free attractive ground cover. Virginia Creeper - Sale Price: $55.35 The Virginia Creeper, Parthenocissus quinquefolia 'engalmani', is a fast-growing, high-climbing vine that attaches itself with tendrils which expand, disk-like, on their tips. The deciduous leaves that radiate outward from a leaf stem, like spokes on a wheel. Each leaflet is about 3-7 long and an inch or two wide. The leaves turn fiery red in fall and are very showy. The individual flowers are tiny and inconspicuous, and arranged in elaborate long-stemmed clusters, with each flower at the tip of its own flower stem. The berries are blue-black, less than a half-inch across and much relished by birds. Easy to grow, the Virginia Creeper can get out of hand if not managed. Also known as Woodbine, it will send up sprouts and seed itself, and established plantings may smother shrubs and trees. Virginia creeper will thrive in most soils, in sun or partial shade, with or without a structure to climb on. Virginia creeper is favored for its brilliant fall foliage and as a maintenance-free ground cover. When allowed to clamber over trees or other tall structures, it develops elongated leafy festoons that are especially showy. It is a spreading, prostrate shrub with long, stiff branches, non-showy flowers, and seldom produces fruit. It is an excellent ground cover and rock garden accent. Prune 'Japgarden' in June after the new growth has time to establish. With most evergreens it is easy to remember Prune in June. | Coral Bells - Palace Purple - Sale Price: $42.75 The Heuchera ‘Palace Purple’, Heuchera micrantha, also known as Alumroot or Coral Bell, is one of the most popular Coral Bells on the market! Being named Perennial of the Year in 1991, one can see why. With its unique deep purple foliage, fading to bronzy green in hot summers, and its dark red stems, it is a little different than the rest. In the springtime, small pinkish and white flowers appear that last into the summer, however, Coral Bells are not known for their flowers, but their foliage. ‘Palace Purple’ has a plant spread of 10-15” and a height of 12-18”. It is best to grow it in medium wet, well-drained soils, in full shade. (It can tolerate some morning sun.) ‘Palace Purple’ looks especially good around the edge of borders, near variegated plants, woodland edges, rock gardens, perennial borders, or in mass to form an attractive ground cover.
