Grass - Red Silver Maiden
The Grass 'Red Silver' Maiden, Miscanthus sinensis 'Rotsilber', has arrow-like silvery foliage that is topped with red flowers in fall. It may also be known as Japanese Silver Grass. Its grassy leaves are green in color with pointy white spines. As an added bonus, the foliage turns a gorgeous gold in the fall. The purple seed heads are carried on showy plumes displayed in abundance from mid-fall right through to late winter; the tan stems can be quite attractive. It requires occasional maintenance and upkeep, and is best cleaned up in early spring before it resumes active growth for the season. 'Red Silver' prefers to grow in average to moist conditions, and shouldn't be allowed to dry out. It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and will even thrive in inner city environments. This plant is deer resistant, attracts birds, and will grow in many different soil types and pH levels.
