Grass - Cabaret Maiden - Sale Price: $28.95 The Grass 'Cabaret' Maiden, Miscanthus sinensis var. conden satus 'Cabaret', is one of the most outstanding new Miscanthus selections! This plant tends to be a bit floppy and graceless in flower, but the foliage effect is grand! This outstanding grass has wide, ribbon-like foliage with a creamy white center and dark green margins. The late season plumes emerge a wonderful coral pink to purple before changing to tan. Its relatively coarse texture can be used to stand it apart from other garden plants with finer foliage. This ornamental grass will require occasional maintenance and upkeep, and is best cleaned up in early spring, before it resumes active growth for the season. Grow in average to moist conditions; do not allow drying out. It is not particular as to soil type or pH. The fuzzy flowers are full and packed closely together.  They resemble a bouquet as they sit on top of shiny, bronze-green foliage.   'Maggie Daley' blooms later than other astilbes and grows best in rich soil that is consistently moist. Astilbes are long-lived perennials that are most comfortable when grown in rich soil and light shade to filtered sun.  They will grow in full shade, but will not bloom as prolifically. ‘Maggie Daley’ is a robust and somewhat drought resistant plant that is similar to Astilbe 'Visions'. Though they are easy to grow, Astilbes have one critical requirement--lots of water.  The plants must have consistently moist soil; dryness leads to a quick demise, especially in the sun. Fertilize Astilbes in late spring before flowering starts. Wait to cut back the old foliage until spring; it will help protect the plant from winter damage. Coreopsis - Moonbeam - Sale Price: $49.95 The Coreopsis ‘Moonbeam’, Coreopsis verticillata, is the most popular perennial in its family. ‘Moonbeam’ was named Perennial of the Year in 1995 and one can see why. With its clusters of light yellow, daisy-like blooms and its green airy fernlike foliage, ‘Moonbeam’ Coreopsis blooms from June through October and is mildew resistant. ‘Moonbeam’ stands at 24” and has a plant spread of 18-24”. ‘Moonbeam’ should be planted in full sun. It is drought-tolerant and tough but does need well-drained soil. It should be cut backing early and late summer to extend the bloom period. Coreopsis ‘Moonbeam’ looks great with Coreopsis ‘Sweet Dreams’, and with any type of grass, in borders or mass plantings in sunny gardens. No garden should be without it.
